APC Unveils New Smart-UPS 5kVA XL UPS

American Power Conversion Corp. (APC, West Kingston, RI) announced enhancements to its Smart-UPS uninterruptible power supply (UPS) line with the introduction of a rack-mountable unit that offers a full 4,000W of power and scalable extended runtime. The Smart-UPS 5kVA XL provides performance power protection for rack-mounted, business-critical equipment, such as servers, networking and telecom systems, while occupying only 5U of rack space.

The Smart-UPS 5kVA XL allows for the addition of up to 10 external battery packs for runtime of up to nearly three hours at the full load capacity of 4,000W. The extra battery packs require only 3U of additional rack space and can be added at any time. Both the UPS and external battery pack contain hot-swappable, user-replaceable batteries that can be quickly and easily replaced without powering down the connected load or removing from the rack.

The new Smart-UPS 5kVA XL is currently available in 208V and 230V input/output models for most countries worldwide. An optional 2U, step-down transformer is available for 208V models for applications requiring 120V output. The Smart-UPS 5kVAXL is priced at $3,479; with the step-down transformer the price is $4,025.
