APC Expands Modular Power Portfolio With Symmetra® PX 250/500 For Medium & Large-Scale Data Centers

APC unveiled the new APC Symmetra® PX 250/500kW Three-Phase uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system for the data center market. Offering N+1 redundancy, the APC Symmetra PX 250/500kW is described as the world’s first truly modular UPS system that easily scales in 25kW increments up to 500kW. This unit is suitable for growth oriented high density and higher power installations key to maximizing virtualization efforts in the data center.

The APC Symmetra PX 250/500kW offers 25kW ultra-high efficiency double conversion online inverter power modules, extended life hot-swap batteries, a large touch-screen graphical user interface, and a side-mounted maintenance bypass panel with subfeed distribution. The new Symmetra PX is said to offer maximum data center configuration flexibility, allowing the unit to easily fit in the same row as IT equipment, or against a wall to save floor space. In the future the Symmetra PX 250/500kW will be capable of being paralleled up to 2MW.

APC’s Symmetra PX 250/500kW UPS is said to offer a truly modular, scalable system consisting of dedicated and redundant modules – power, intelligence, battery and communications – all engineered into a design that makes installation, future expansion and serviceability easy and efficient. That same architecture is said to eliminate waste and lowers overall total cost of ownership by giving IT managers the ability to right-size power and runtime as demand grows or as higher levels of availability dictate. The unit also features automated predictive diagnostic capabilities, increased overload capacity, and on-the-fly firmware upgrades, which is said to result in a highly redundant, efficient and simplified UPS architecture.

The APC Symmetra PX 250/500kW UPS is currently available in North America in configurations scaling from 25 to 500kW.
