Analog introduces PFM Step-Up DC-DC Converter
Analog Integration Corporation announces a series of pulse frequency modulation (PFM) step-up dc-dc converter — AIC1610/11 and AIC1612. The AIC1610/11has an internal 1A /0.65A power switch and is packaged in a tiny 8-lead thermally enhanced mini small outline package (MSOP). But AIC1612, with a selectable internal 1A /0.65A power switch, is packaged in a tiny 10-lead thermally enhanced MSOP.
Compared to AIC1610/11, AIC1612 has extra pins for selecting the current limit value and for reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI). These devices consume 20 µA of quiescent current and offer a built-in synchronous rectifier that reduces size and cost by eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode. This improves overall efficiency by minimizing losses. A conversion efficiency of up to 93% can be reached.
In addition, the start-up voltage of these devices is as low as 0.8V and the operating voltage is down to 0.7V. With the normal operating voltage ranging from 1.1V to 5.5V and tiny package form, the AIC1610 series can be used in portable devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), MP3 players and so on.
The AIC1610/11 and AIC1612 are offered in an 8-pin and a 10-pin MSOP. The AIC1610 series is available in volume and pricing starts at $0.46 per 1,000.
