Analog Devices Intros New AD9779 Converter

January 11, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Analog Devices Inc. (ADI, Wilmington, MA) introduced its new 16-bit, digital-to-analog converter (DAC), the AD9779, which achieves a sample rate of 1 giga-samples-per-second. The highly integrated, interpolating, dual AD9779 is designed to enable high-quality conversion of demanding wireless standards, such as W-CDMA, CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA and WiMAX.

The 16-bit AD9779 offers 4 dB lower noise, 15 dB better intermodulation distortion and 20 dB higher spurious free dynamic range at a 70 MHz output frequency, while consuming 600 mW of power at 500 MSPS and 1 W at 1 giga-samples-per-second.

The AD9779 converters are sampling now and will be available in production quantities in May 2005 in a lead-free, 100-lead, thin quad flat pack exposed paddle (TQFP_EP) package. The AD9779 is priced at $27.95 in 1,000-unit quantities.
