June 03, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

American Power Conversion (APC, West Kingston, RI) announced that it is expanding its availability solutions to include a new portable 7,200btu air-conditioning unit engineered to safeguard servers, PBXs, Internet-working hardware and sensitive office equipment from the disastrous effects of heat exposure. The new Network AIR 1000 provides supplemental, emergency or temporary cooling. The unit is suitable for cooling server closets and computer rooms found in most small- to medium-sized businesses, but can also be utilized for spot-cooling for service provider, co-locator and large enterprise environments.

APC’s Network AIR 1000 is UL-listed, features an electronic control pad with LCD display, and draws low amperage. Additional features include quiet cooling, a sound level of 51.5dB, and a warm-air discharge kit. The product comes with ducts and adapters to route the warm air exhaust to the ceiling plenum. It also has a programmable digital thermostat and oscillating auto-swing louvers. The footprint is 12.85” x 16.35”.

“As heat is one of the factors contributing to hardware failure and downtime, the need for reliable air-conditioning equipment is essential to maintain systems availability,” said Rob Johnson, general manager of APC’s availability enhancements group. “We’ve expanded our traditional power solutions offering with the Network AIR 1000 to provide customers with a compact cooling solution designed to help them protect their critical equipment from additional environmental disturbances, such as heat, which can significantly damage their systems.”

The Network AIR 1000 will be available in North America in the second quarter of 2001. The estimated resale price is $925.
