Allegro MicroSystems extends offering of Sanken Switching Power Supplies

November 24, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

Allegro MicroSystems, LLC the US subsidiary of Sanken Electric Co., Ltd. of Japan, now offers Sanken's C-series, HWB-series and SWF-series user-configurable power supplies. The new families are part of Sanken's effort to grow their off-the-shelf power supply business. Until now, most of Sanken's power supply products were custom-designed products. Earlier this year, Sanken Japan announced the C-Series and other off-the-shelf power supplies, and started volume productions at its facility in Indonesia in August 2013. Through Allegro, the C-Series and other standard power supplies are now available to customers in North America. They are also available through Digi-Key and other Allegro distributors.

All three series are targeted at the telecommunications and medical markets. The C Series power supplies save design and production time and cost by allowing end-of-line selection of multiple output voltages to match alternative application circuit requirements, while using the same power supply base unit. These power supplies are available in three wattages, 300W, 450W and 650W. DC voltage output modules are slot-mounted inside the base units to provide various combinations of single, dual, or parallel output voltages. In lots of 1,000 pieces, unit prices for C Series power supplies range from $29 to $151, depending on ratings.

The HWB Series is offered in five models, a single-output 60W unit, single-output and dual-output 30W units and single-output and dual-output 15W designs, all employ proprietary Soft-switched, multi-resonant zero-cross (SMZ) type resonant-mode circuits to achieve large noise reduction in the converter unit. Moreover, this is a switching power supply which has realized ultra-low noise (ripple voltage, conducted emission, and noise electric field strength) like a dropper power supply, employing a proprietary resonant mode hybrid IC and transformer. In quantities of 1,000 pieces, unit prices for HWB Series power supplies range from $63 to $90, depending on the ratings. The SWF Series are compact, wide ranging power supplies, providing peak power capability that supports twice the rated output, making them suited for motorized applications. They are available in four models raged for 100W, 150W, 240W and 500W and offer low noise and high efficiency by current resonant circuitry. In lots of 1,000 pieces, unit prices for SWF Series power supplies range from $31 to $59, depending on ratings.
