Agere Systems Intros T8300/303 VoIP Chips

June 01, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Agere Systems Inc. (Allentown, PA) announced two new integrated VoIP phone chips that offer both dual (T8300) and single (T8303) Ethernet ports and are aimed at driving the rapid deployment of IP phone systems. Both chips couple the company's DSP 1600 core with an ARM490T microcontroller, allowing use of the same software for a broad range of IP phone designs. Also included are 96KB of ROM and 56KB of RAM to eliminate the need for external DSP memory.

The VoIP chips support wide-band codecs for enhanced voice quality, three-way teleconferencing and full-duplex speakerphone capability with self-adaptive acoustic echo cancellation. The devices are compatible with the WaveLAN wireless networking components.

The T8300 is priced at about $18, and the T8303 is available for $12 in quantities of 50,000.
