May 12, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Aerocomm Inc. (Lenexa, KS) launched its 1 W, 900 MHz AC4490-1W product, which provides a one full watt of output allowing for data transmissions of up to 115.2 Kbps across 20 miles line-of-sight. Typical applications for 1 W transceivers include automated meter reading, electronic signs, fleet management, lighting control and security. The AC4490s are approved for use in portable applications in the US, Canada, Australia and South America.

The transceiver modules and stand-alone units offer both extreme range and reliable communications. The small transceiver module offers measurements of 1.65 in x 1.9 in (48 mm x 42 mm), a user-programmable output power of 5 mW to 1,000 mW, socket-compatibility with 2.4 GHz units for network-wide interchangeability, and operation across the entire -40 °C to +80 °C industrial temperature range.

Pricing for the lowest-cost 1 W transceiver module is less than $45 in quantities of 10,000.
