ACS Motion Control Introduces New Multi-Axis Motion Controller Series

January 31, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

ACS Motion Control announced that it has developed a family of motion control modules that provide multi-axis motion control for a variety of motion control application with requirements that range from simple to demanding.

Designated the SPiiPlus Econo Series, the versatile two-, four-, six-, or eight-axis motion controllers are available in two versions, the SpiiPlus Stand Alone LT and the SpiiPlus PCI LT. The SPiiPlus Econo Series controllers are designed to enhance the performance of OEM machinery that requires multi-axis synchronization at a lower cost by providing swift and smooth motion at a high resolution without compromising accuracy and throughput.

The SPiiPlus SA Econo Series is suitable for OEM machinery that requires multi-axis synchronization with various drive types, such as liner servo motors, piezo ceramic, direct drive rotary, voice coil and low EMI linear amplifiers in applications including semiconductor manufacturing, wafer inspection, electronic assembly, printing and packaging.

The SPiiPlus SA Series is furnished with a simple and convenient D-Type connectivity for interfacing with the servo amplifiers, analog and incremental encoders, as well as digital and analog I/O. The modules also features powerful I/O handling with advanced logic capabilities and IEC 61131-3 graphical motion and logic programming.

The SPiiPlus PCI Econo Series motion controller is based on the same technology as all SPiiPlus products and is designed to communicate via the PCI bus, or as a stand-alone control. The SPiiPlus PCI can meet the application requirements for robotic control all the way to XY stage point to point positioning.

The SPiiPlus Econo Series controllers can be implemented in systems with both servo and step motors. The motion controllers support a wide range of modes, including point-to-point, jog, segmented, master-slave and arbitrary path with PVT cubic interpolation. The SPiiPlus Econo Series modules feature third-order profile generation with on-the-fly velocity, acceleration, jerk and target position changes. The position event generator (PEG) and position registration (MARK) capabilities, both with sub-microsecond delay, are said to ensure accurate and precise control.
