AC-input and DC-input LED Drivers added by Mean Well

November 21, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

Mean Well Enterprises Co. Ltd. has introduced two new series of dc-input constant-current LED drivers that can deliver up to 1050mA and a series of 65W LED drivers that operate from a 180- to 528-Vac input and that feature 2-stage power factor correction. The new LDH-45 series boost dc-dc constant-current LED drivers operate with input voltages of 9- to 18-Vdc for the LDH-45A-X models and 18- to 32-Vdc for the LDH-45B-X models. Both series feature with 350mA/500mA/700mA/1050mA output current. In addition, LDH-45 series include built-in pwm and analog dimming function, enabling the ON/OFF remote control and the output current adjustment to be controlled by connecting the external PWM signal or 0.25- to 1.3-Vdc analog dimming, which can satisfy the demand of various energy-saving dimming design of lighting fixtures.

LDH-45 series offers efficiency up to 95% and can operate between -40 to +70 °C ambient temperature using free air convection. All series are potted for providing better ability of heat dissipation, anti-dust, and anti-moisture. They offer two kinds of input/ output packages like pin style or wire style for selection. With a built-in EMI filter, these LED drivers comply with EMI requirements per EN55015 lighting regulation without connecting any external EMI restraint components. Other standard functions include short-circuit, over-voltage, and input under-voltage protection. They are designed for use in street lighting, landscape lighting, tunnel lighting, household lighting, and various kinds of off-grid LED garden lights or LED street lights powered by solar chargers.

At the same time, Mean Well announced the extension of its HVG(C)-65 (65W) series. With an input range of 180- to 528-Vac, the HVG(C)-65 series are not only targeted for the general 230Vac main input, but also can be operated under 277/347/440/480Vac input in USA, Canada, and Japan. Designed with constant voltage (C.V.) plus constant current (C.C.) modes, HVG-65 series are low-voltage output models (up to 54Vdc) while HVGC-65 are high-voltage output models (up to 186Vdc). Both series have built-in two-stage PFC function, so that they can meet the harmonic current limitation per EN61000-3-2 Class C (>60% load), and they also fulfill PF>0.9 for loading over 60% (over 70% load under 480Vac). In addition, they possess 4KV surge immunity (EN61000-4-5).

HVG(C)-65 has three options the A, B, and D types. In A type of HVG-65, users can adjust the dc current range from 60% to 100% and output voltage ±10% by removing the rubber stopper on the cover. In A type of HVGC-65, users can adjust the dc current range from 60% to 100%; B type models are equipped with three-in-one dimming function (0- to 10-Vdc, pwm, and resistance) while D type models (optional) are equipped with “multiple stage timer dimming” function that can be customized by request. In addition, these new series have efficiencies of 90.5%, so they can be cooled by free air convection from -40°C to +70°C ambient temperature.

In order to fit in with the outdoor harsh environment, these LED drivers are offered in an aluminum case with fully potted by glue (IP65/67 structure). Beside standard functions of protection for short-circuit, over-voltage, overload, and over-temperature, HVG(C)-65 comply with global certificates per UL/CUL/FCC for HVG-65 and UL/CUL/ENEC/CB/FCC/CE for HVGC-65, including UL8750, ENEC EN61347-2-13 and EN62384 of lighting regulations. They are suitable for use in LED lighting applications that require high input voltage ranges, such as LED street lighting, LED high bay lighting, LED office lighting, outdoor display, LED decorative lighting, and so on.
