Absopulse Electronics Intros PFC6300 Power Supply

October 29, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics (Carp, ON) announced its new PFC6300 modular, dual-output power supply with power-factor corrected input. Originally designed for powering a large microwave amplifier, this unit is suitable for a wide range of applications requiring high current and high output power.

The main output delivers 6kW from a 220Vac single-phase input (187Vac to 264Vac range), and is rated for 12V at 500A continuous duty. The auxiliary output delivers 48V at 6.25A (300W). The power factor is corrected to a minimum of 0.95 at full load for the entire input range.

The PFC6300 offers an output-voltage trim facility that makes it possible to adjust the output to between 10.5V and 12.5V. Combined line-and-load regulation is ±2 percent, and the output ripple noise is better than 100mV peak-to-peak. The PFC6300 is fan-cooled and provides a rated output over a temperature range of 0 to 50 degrees C. Protection on the input and output includes inrush current limiting, over-voltage protection, and current limiting with short-circuit protection and a self-resetting thermostat for thermal protection.

The PFC6300 is designed to meet international safety approvals, including IEC950, CSA22-2-950 and UL 1950. The unit also meets the requirements for EN55022 Class A EMI emissions. Housed in a 3U x 19in x 28in chassis, multiple PFC6300 units can be stacked and connected in parallel for higher output current and power.

The PFC6300 12V/500A basic model is priced at $5,480 for quantities of one through four.
