Absopulse Electronics Debuts PSI 1000 Series Inverter

May 18, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. (Carp, Ontario, Canada) debuted its new PSI 1000 Series inverter, which delivers 1,000 VA sinusoidal voltage at 50 Hz, 60 Hz or 400 Hz for driving ac equipment in industrial, railway, marine, mining, utility and aviation ground support applications.

The PSI 1000’s internal modules are fully encapsulated within a thermally conductive, MIL-specified silicon rubber compound to ensure immunity to shock, vibration, moisture, humidity, salt and fog. It is conduction cooled via a base plate, with extended temperature ranges available as an option. The unit is housed in a low-profile, 19 in x 14 in x 3 in enclosure and can be used in chassis-mount applications.

The PSI 1000 solid-state inverter incorporates microprocessor-controlled, high-frequency PWM technology to synthesize sinusoidal outputs of 115 Vrms or 230 Vrms, and accepts a nominal input of 24 Vdc, 36 Vdc, 48 Vdc, 125 Vdc or 250 Vdc (+20%/-15%). Line regulation is within 0.5% and load regulation is within ±2% from no-load to full load. Efficiency is at least 78% at full load. Total harmonic distortion is less than 5%.

The PSI 1000 is filtered to meet the requirements for EN55022 Class A as a minimum. It is designed to meet international safety approvals, including C22.2 No. 107.1- 01, UL 458 and EN60950. Protection includes current limiting, short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown with automatic recovery in case of continuous overload. Options include an output fail alarm (form C) and remote inhibit.

The PSI 1000 is priced at $1,632 in quantities of 100.
