Absopulse Debuts WMC2000 AC/DC Converter

May 04, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. (Carp, Ontario) debuted its new WMC2000 2,000W ac/dc converter, which is designed specifically for heavy-duty industrial applications. The standard unit delivers 12V at 120A, 24V at 80A or 48V at 40A, from a 230Vac single-phase input (either with or without power-factor correction), or from a 208Vac three-phase input. The converter is also offered with a universal input of 90Vac to 264Vac with de-rating to 1,500W. Other voltages are also possible.

The WMC2000 is mechanically rugged and conformal coated to ensure immunity to shock, vibration, dust, humidity and moisture. The 13in x 5.3in x 7.5in unit weighs 15lbs and is typically wall-mounted with input and output connections located on the lateral panel to minimize chassis depth. The device is also available in a 19in rack-mount format. The converter is fan-cooled and rated for operation over 0°C to 50°C, with optional extended temperature ranges.

The WMC2000 is designed to meet international safety approvals, including IEC950, CSA22-2-950 and UL 1950. It is filtered on the input to meet the requirements for EN55022 Class A as a minimum, with an optional internal filter module for Class B EMI. Other protection includes current limiting, inductive-voltage surge protection, short-circuit protection, and thermal shut-down with automatic recovery in case of insufficient airflow.

The basic WMC2000 model is priced at $1,773.
