Absopulse 1kW Encapsulated, DC-DC Converter Suits Extreme Environments

July 25, 2010 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. introduced the PDC 765 Series rugged, industrial quality dc-dc converter delivers up to 1kW output power. Full encapsulation in a thermally conductive MIL-grade silicon rubber compound ensures resistance to high levels of shock, vibration and moisture. This unit is suitable for use in industrial, transportation, oil & gas, mining and other extreme environments. A railway version that complies with EN 50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock is also available.

This 1kW converter delivers outputs of 12V/83A, 24V/41A, 48V/21A or 110Vdc/9A; it accepts 48V (42V – 60V range) or 125Vdc (90V – 145V range) supply voltages. Other input and output values are available on request. An optional redundancy diode allows for parallel connection. Other options include alarms and indicators.

Cooling is via base plate by conduction. The unit operates in a -40 to 60°C cold plate temperature range at full specification, with extended temperature ranges available on request. This compact, encapsulated converter measures 155 x 72 x 269mm and weighs 4 kg.

The PDC 765 is filtered to meet EN 55022 Class A EMI with wide margins. It is designed to meet EN 60950 and related standards. Protection features include inrush current limiting, surge and reverse polarity protection on the input. Output protection includes current limiting with short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown with self-resetting. Line and load regulation combined are ±1% from no load to full load and efficiency is a minimum of 82%, depending on input/output voltage combination.
