Aavid Thermalloy Introduces High Performance Cold Plates for Power Applications

March 14, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Aavid Thermalloy, LLC announced the availability of ultra high performance, Turbo Flow cold plates for power applications. The company’s Turbo Flow Ultra High Performance Cold Plates are designed to cool the latest high density IGBT’s.

Aavid’s latest cold plates increase the surface area in contact with the cooling fluid by channeling fluid through uniquely configured flow paths. The result is claimed to be a cold plate with superior thermal performance and a lower pressure drop than competing cold plates. The company claims that a lower pressure drop means less demand on the fluid circulation system and allows engineers to reduce overall system cost.

Aavid claims that its Turbo Flow cold plates are easily configured for custom applications. Length and width can be varied and the fluid flow path can be altered. The company also claims that its application engineers can optimize the flow patterns by steering fluid toward hot spots while providing necessary space for device mechanical attachment. The cold plates are manufactured from aluminum and constructed using vacuum brazing for leak free and contamination free operation. RoHS compliant AavSHIELD finishes are available for corrosion protection.

Prices start at $215.19 for OEM quantities of 100 pcs and samples are available upon request. Production quantities are attainable with standard lead times of 6-8 weeks.
