1700V Schottky Rectifiers Rated from 5A to 50A

January 11, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Wolfspeed has added to its family of 1700V Schottky diodes in optimized packages for high voltage applications in harsh environments. The company designed the  for Renewable Energy and EV Markets. The new Schottky diodes join the company's family of 1700V MOSFETs in optimized packages suitable for high voltage applications operating in harsh environments. Wolfspeed claims that its 1700V SiC Schottky Diodes and SiC MOSFETs provide industry-leading efficiency and system cost savings for the renewable energy and EV markets.

Wolfspeed's new 5th generation 1700V SiC Schottky diodes boast the industry's highest current rating and best-in-class forward voltage drop. The SiC Schottky diodes also feature zero reverse recovery. Wolfspeed created the product family to withstand high-humidity environments, making it ideal for outdoor applications such as solar and EV chargers. The company recommends them to replace Wolfspeed's existing C3D Diode Technology.

The Schottky diodes can replace bipolar with unipolar rectifiers. The components have essentially no switching losses and therefore operate with higher efficiency. Another benefit of the Schottky diodes is that they reduce heat-sink requirements.  A further advantage of the Schottky diodes is that can run parallel devices without thermal runaway.
