15W/20W/30W DC-DC Converters Optimized to Drive LDOs

February 28, 2019 by Paul Shepard

TRACO Power has expanded their THN series of 15W, 20W, and 30W dc-dc converters in the standard 1.00in x 1.00in x 0.40in package with 4-1 input ranges.

Typical applications are in mobile equipment, instrumentation, as well as distributed power architectures in communication and industrial electronics, and where space on the PCB is critical. Other uses include isolation and regulation in low-noise applications.

These new dc-dc converters include 5Vout models with an “-A1” suffix that provides an extended trim range up to 6Vdc. This extended trim function makes these dc-dc converters suitable for LDO regulator applications, reducing power losses over the LDO while eliminating almost all ripple and noise components, and providing a clean 5Vdc output voltage.

These characteristics also make these converters suitable for providing isolation and regulation for circuits in low-noise applications

These compact, high-performance dc-dc converters feature 4:1 input range of 9Vin to 36Vin/18Vin to 75Vin.; a full-load operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C (up to 105°C with derating); input to output isolation of 1,600Vdc, and they have a 6-sided shielded metal case with an insulated base plate.

All models are safety approved to IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 and are qualified to meet EN 55032 Class A conducted emissions limits and will meet Class B limits with the addition of external components. Reliability is measured at >1.6 million hours per MIL-HDBK-2175 and backed by TRACO Power’s 3-year warranty.
