10-W DC-DC Converters Feature Medical Safety Approvals

February 10, 2015 by Jeff Shepard

Artesyn Embedded Technologies today announced the AEE10W-M series, new 10-Watt dc-dc converters that provide OEMs with an economical solution for demanding applications in industrial and medical instrumentation requiring a certified supplementary or reinforced insulation system to comply with industrial or medical safety standards.

Encapsulated in a compact 2x1 inch industry-standard package, the AEE10W-M series offers up to 92 percent efficiency and covers a wide input voltage range from 9- to 75-Vdc with three 2:1 input voltage ratings (9- to 18-V, 18- to 36-V and 36- to 75-V). The series has fully regulated single- or dual-output voltage models.

The reinforced insulation system, critical for medical equipment applications, is rated for 300Vac working voltage and 4200Vac rms. The AEE10W-M series is certified to the 3rd Edition UL/CSA/EN/IEC 60601-1 medical safety standard and is rated for 2X means of operator protection (MOOP). This family has a calculated MTBF to MIL-HDBK-217F of greater than one million hours.

Artesyn’s AEE10W-M series consists of single 5- and 12-V single-output models and +12/-12 and +15/-15 V dual-output models. The dc-dc modules can operate from minus 40 degrees Celsius up to 75 degrees Celsius with full power available to 60 degrees Celsius, with power derating at higher temperatures. They offer additional features such as the low leakage current required in medical applications, protection from overvoltage, and EMI characteristics that can meet EN 55022, class A and FCC level A.
