German startup TWAICE is teaming up with Massachusetts-based semiconductor firm Analog Devices on a project to optimize battery life and reduce warranty risks and recalls for customers in the automotive and energy sectors.

The partnership will combine Analog Devices’ sensor and wireless connectivity technologies with TWAICE’s battery analytics software to provide a more complete set of performance data and insights on improving battery life cycles.

“The battery is the energy source for every electric vehicle, and it is also a valuable asset,” stated Analog Devices Automotive Vice President Patrick Morgan in the announcement. “Together with TWAICE, we are delivering innovative holistic solutions across battery lifetimes that create significant value for our customers and support a circular economy.”

Powered by digital twin simulation models, TWAICE’s predictive analytics software can determine the condition and predict the lifecycle of lithium-ion batteries. The startup is only three years old, but it’s already gaining plenty of traction with notable customers like automotive giants Audi, Daimler and Hero Motors, and Austrian energy provider Verbund. It’s also fresh off a $26 million Series B funding round to support its expansions in the EV and energy markets.

The new partnership is set to bring more exposure and potential opportunities for the three-year-old startup. Analog Devices, which recently completed its $20.8 billion acquisition of Maxim Integrated, serves over 100,000 customers worldwide.

In the announcement, TWAICE Co-CEO Stephan Rohr Michael Baumann referred to the partnership as a “decisive milestone” for the company as it widens its approach to attracting major customers and launching new products globally. Soon after the Analog Devices announcement, TWAICE announced another new partner in pepper motion, a German company offering retrofitting solutions for used and new commercial vehicles.
