September 15, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Tekelec (Calabasas, CA), a developer of telecommunications switching and signaling products for fixed, mobile and next-generation networks, announced its continued global expansion with the opening of an office in Moscow. The new office will support the rapidly growing telecommunications market in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). As of July 31, 2003, Russian operators served 40 million fixed-line and 27 million mobile users, a 40-percent increase over the previous year's mobile market.

"Russia provides significant opportunities in both fixed and mobile telecom," explained Fred Lax, president and CEO, Tekelec. "We realize that the best way to support the region is by establishing direct operations. We see a strong fit for Tekelec in this dynamic market. Our signaling, switching and application solutions will help both new and established operators build smart networks that are efficient, scalable and cost-effective. Our unique now and next-generation solutions enable operators to create flexible networks that evolve seamlessly to support new technologies and changing customer demands."
