December 21, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Lithium battery maker Simplo Technology (Taiwan) is cooperating with battery cell producer BYD Co. (China) in an effort to secure new orders from Dell for its value notebook-use, lithium-ion battery packs.

Along with the new orders, which are expected to be finalized in the first quarter of next year, Simplo is expected to ship 2.5 million to 3.0 million lithium batteries to Dell in 2005, making the US vendor one of its top three clients, in addition to Hewlett Packard and Wistron. Simplo’s shipments of lithium batteries are expected to reach 11 million to 12 million units in 2005, accounting for about 20% to 21% of total estimated global shipments of 56 million units.
