February 07, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Siliconix Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) reported annual net income of $15.1 million, or $0.51 per share, on net sales of $305.6 million. The company’s net sales for the year were down from $107.6 million, or $3.60 per share, a year ago. Net sales for 2001 fell from $473.1 million posted last year.

For the fourth quarter, Siliconix reported $649,000, or $0.02 per share, in net income compared with $23.7 million, or $0.79 per share, in the year-ago period. However, the company has shown a sequential improvement. In the third quarter, Siliconix posted a loss of $877,000, or $0.03 per share. Net sales for the quarter were $76.7 million, down from $111.6 million for the same quarter a year ago, but 14 percent higher than net sales of $67.5 million in the third quarter.

"We continue to observe many of the same phenomena that we began to see in the third quarter. Both our book-to-bill ratio, and bookings in absolute dollars, improved for the third consecutive quarter," said King Owyang, Siliconix’s president and CEO. "Furthermore, cancellations also decreased for the third consecutive quarter, and to the extent that our customers are rescheduling orders, they are almost invariably requesting earlier, rather than later, delivery dates."
