Siemens Warns against Fake Mobile Phone Batteries

September 16, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Siemens AG (Munich, Germany) has issued a warning against the use of non-licensed and non-approved third-party batteries due to a recent case of mobile phone damage. There is evidence of pirate copies of original batteries currently being offered in Germany, in parts of Europe and Asia. The dangerous fakes are made in Asia and are undetectable to the layman.

In extreme cases, the inferior products can explode when charged for long periods in the home or in car chargers since some of the batteries have no safety functions to protect against over-charging. Owners of Siemens mobile phones, particularly the 25 Series phones, are urged to use caution when purchasing and using batteries and other accessories from flea/street markets and over the Internet.
