Sharp Announces Plans for New China Plant

April 05, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Sharp Corp. (Japan) announced plans to build a new plant at Wuxi Sharp Electronic Components Co. Ltd. (WSEC) to boost production of small-size to medium-size LCD modules. The company began construction of the new China plant at the end of March and expects the facility to be complete in September.

Sharp expects the plant to help WSEC increase production capacity by about three times the current level to a monthly output of seven-million units in the second half of fiscal 2004. Sharp will also build a technical center on the same site, completing WSEC's transition to an integrated manufacturing organization capable of carrying out everything from design and development, to the manufacture of highly customizable, small-size to medium-size LCD modules.
