PV Connector from Amphenol UL Certified to 1000 V

April 10, 2012 by Jeff Shepard

Amphenol Industrial Global Operations has announced that its Helios H4 is UL certified to 1000V. This UL rating allows Amphenol’s connectors to be used in existing systems as well as in new ones that require more voltage without having to increase cable size.

The increase in voltage rating allows higher voltage systems to be created with a lower percentage of voltage drop. It also decreases the use of copper and the dollar per watt through electrical efficiency.

The dual-rated (UL/TUV) PV connector features Amphenol’s RADSOK technology, offering higher current ratings and lower contact resistance resulting in lower power losses. The Helios H4 is compatible with industry standard connectors.

Designed for applications that use solar inverters, combiner boxes and installers, the H4 connector helps feed power from a solar panel into an inverter or combiner box and features quick snap lock mating for easy panel mount installation and termination to either box. The connector meets NEC 2008 requirements without the need for extra locking collars or locking sleeves. The increased rating makes the connectors an ideal choice for use in ever-expanding solar farms.

The RoHS-compliant connector uses a simple unlocking tool for easy unmating in the field and is CSA approved. It is available in four different gauges including 14 AWG rated at 32 A, 12 AWG rated at 40 A, 10 AWG rated at 44 A and 8 AWG rated at 65 A.
