PowerGenix Names Industry Veteran as New VP of Product Development

October 26, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

PowerGenix, Inc. announced that Todd F. Tatar has joined the company's management team as Vice President of Product Development. In this role, Tartar will be responsible for implementing new product design elements and bringing PowerGenix's nickel-zinc sealed rechargeable battery products to market in the near future. Tatar joins PowerGenix from SANYO Energy (USA) Corp. where he was responsible for battery product development, production implementation and Information Technology (IT). During his 15-year tenure at SANYO, Tatar held hi-level director, engineering, ERP operations and sales management positions.

"We are very pleased to have Todd join our growing team. With his extensive knowledge of various battery technologies and product development expertise, Todd has both the technical and management talent to take our ground-breaking nickel-zinc battery technology to market," stated PowerGenix CEO, Dan Squiller. "Based on this experience and vast knowledge, his decision to join PowerGenix speaks to the strength of our technology and the potential for our cells to offer the first attractive alternative to nickel-cadmium (NiCd) and nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) in many large segments."

PowerGenix has developed and patented a next-generation NiZn rechargeable battery technology especially suited as a replacement in high power NiCd and NiMH applications. PowerGenix's initial products will target high rate discharge applications such as cordless power tools as well as military applications; with longer-term plans to enter other markets including the emerging Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and selected consumer product segments. The company's battery technology is intended to offer key strategic advantages including high performance, low cost and safety — all without the toxic environmental impact associated with today's commonly used rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries.

"I'm very excited to join the PowerGenix team and to be instrumental in bringing their innovative nickel-zinc batteries to the marketplace," commented Todd F. Tatar. "While other companies have been working on perfecting various battery chemistries, PowerGenix is the first to overcome the technical hurdles that have kept nickel-zinc technology from moving forward in the past. I look forward to being a part of this very exciting technology."

Tartar brings nearly 25 years of engineering, software, manufacturing and management expertise to PowerGenix. He has held senior positions with some of the nation's leading corporations, including SANYO Energy (USA.) Corp., Martin Marietta Aerospace, Gould Electronics and GE Automation Systems. Tatar holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of South Florida.
