Plug Power's GenCore Product Passes NEBS Testing

March 31, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Plug Power Inc. (Latham, NY), a leader in the development of proton-exchange membrane fuel cell systems, announced that its GenCore fuel cell product has successfully completed Network Equipment Building Systems (NEBS) Level 3 compliance testing, a standard developed by the telecommunications industry that qualifies equipment under extreme environmental conditions and requires specific levels of technological resiliency.

Plug Power contracted with Telcordia, a leader in NEBS standards development and testing, to provide system compliance testing. The Telcordia compliance testing program for the GenCore TM 5T –48 V dc backup fuel cell system tested against all applicable criteria in NEBS Level 3, as described in Telcordia Special Report SR-3580, Network Equipment Building Systems Criteria Levels.

"We are very pleased to be the first fuel cell company to achieve this important milestone,” said Mark Sperry, chief marketing officer of Plug Power. "Prior to installing new technology in the telecommunications infrastructure in the US, many telecom service providers require that products are at least NEBS Level 3 compliant. The completion of these tests helps to ensure carriers that they can deploy our backup power systems in demanding applications and environments."
