Pacific Fuel Cell Wins Energy STTR Award

Pacific Fuel Cell Corp. (PFCE, Tustin, CA), a producer of nanotechnology-based fuel cells for the portable and micro fuel cell market, was one of 22 businesses chosen for a Small Business Technology Transfer grant by the US Department of Energy. This is a phase I grant, and the intended start date is September 1, 2004. The University of California-Riverside (UCR) will be the non-profit participating research institution.

The UCR research team will be directed by Professor Yushan Yan, who is a leading authority on proton-conductive membranes and nano-structured electrodes. UCR's Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering, headed by Robert Haddon, professor of Chemistry and Chemical and Environmental Engineering, features a research team of 25 faculty members from engineering, cell biology and neuroscience, chemistry and physics.
