OutBack Power and HiQ Solar Team on 3-Phase PV Systems

June 07, 2016 by Jeff Shepard

OutBack Power Technologies, Inc. today announced a partnership with HiQ Solar, an innovator in 3-phase power-conversion technology for commercial and industrial solar applications. OutBack Power will sell and support HiQ's TrueString products in an installer network grown over its 15 years of leadership in the solar industry, providing solar professionals with a new opportunity for growth.

As solar equipment and pricing policies continue to trend favorably for system owners and operators, businesses are investing more in renewable energy, incentivized by both a “bottom line” economic return through long-term energy savings as well as the ability to demonstrate greater corporate responsibility. HiQ’s 3-phase “plug and play” system will provide OutBack a proven, advanced solution to bring commercial-scale solar to a wide new audience of design installation professionals and expand the brand’s reach into new markets.

“As two solar innovators focused on separate, but complementary markets, this is an ideal alignment,” remarked Harvey Wilkinson, general manager of OutBack Power. “OutBack’s expertise lies mainly in residential, light commercial and off-grid PV systems with energy storage, in single and split-phase configurations. HiQ Solar is emerging as a leader in the 3-phase commercial/industrial grid-tied market. This alliance will introduce OutBack’s core customers to a new opportunity and add to their business portfolios, and we are thrilled to partner with HiQ Solar to make that opportunity possible.”

Added Drew Zogby, president of Alpha Technologies, OutBack Power’s parent company; “This relationship has great potential both with OutBack’s customer base and beyond it. One example is our own Alpha Energy group, which is an established commercial and industrial solar EPC in its own right. This makes it possible for Alpha and others to offer a truly complete, turn-key commercial solution.”

HiQ Solar’s chairman and CEO, Lutz Henckels, commented on the new relationship; “Our unique technology makes commercial solar ‘plug-and-play’ feasible. Our award winning products have been certified for use and proven in the North American commercial and industrial markets. Our inverter is designed to accommodate storage and, with OutBack Power’s expertise in storage solutions, we truly complement each other. This adds up to a unique solar value proposition for OutBack Power’s customer base, which includes some of the most skilled and knowledgeable installers in the industry. We’re looking forward to the strong, mutually-beneficial relationship, which will come from a partnership between HiQ and an industry leader.”

The two companies plan to release complete details of their business partnership between now and the upcoming InterSolar North America show in San Francisco in July.
