O2Micro Wins Trade Secrets Misappropriation

July 17, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

O2Micro International Ltd. (George Town, Grand Cayman), a supplier of power management and security ICs to mobile computer and communications manufacturers, announced that the jury in the US District Court of the Northern District of California returned a verdict favorable to O2Micro in its trade secrets misappropriation and patent declaratory judgment suit against Monolithic Power Systems Inc.

The jury found Monolithic Power Systems liable for misappropriation of O2Micro trade secrets, found that Monolithic's misappropriation was willful, and awarded O2Micro $12 million in damages. The jury also found that all asserted claims of US Patent Nos. 6,114,814 and 6,316,881 were invalid and found that all O2Micro's products accused by Monolithic Power Systems did not infringe any asserted claims. A judgment has not been entered, and O2Micro expects that Monolithic will file post-trial motions with the court seeking to overturn the jury's decision and other actions. After judgment has been entered, Monolithic Power Systems may appeal the case to the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
