Nuvera Provides Fuel Cell System to Deere and Co.

March 14, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Nuvera Fuel Cells Inc. (Cambridge, MA), a developer of multi-fuel reforming and proton-exchange membrane fuel cell technology, announced that it has sold a 5.5 kW H2e fuel cell power module to Deere & Co., a manufacturer of agricultural, forestry, construction and commercial equipment. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

Nuvera said Deere plans to test and evaluate Nuvera’s hydrogen-powered system for use as a potential future power source in off-road equipment. Nuvera reports that its H2e fuel cell power module can extend the operational cycle, increase product run time, and enhance productivity for many types of utility vehicles and heavy-duty industrial equipment. Using pre-configured interconnections; direct water injection; and low-cost, metallic, bi-polar plates, the compact "engine" converts hydrogen fuel into dc electricity.
