Microchip Technology Inc. (Chandler, AZ) announced that it has formed the Appliance Market Products Group to target new design opportunities for appliance applications worldwide. Microchip plans to design, develop and launch appliance-specific solutions for basic control, user interface, motor control and energy efficiency.
"The semiconductor segment of the global appliance market is estimated at $2.0 billion in 2001, yet the general appliance market remains embryonic in adding low-cost electronics intelligence and control," said Steve Sanghi, Microchip president and CEO.
