Major Changes to PMBus to be Unveiled at DPF ‘13

August 08, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

On Thursday, September 12, during the tenth-annual Darnell’s Power Forum (DPF ’13), the PMBus Working Group will release the preliminary PMBus V1.3 specifications. PMBus V1.3 has broad implications for manufacturers of FPGAs, ASICs, SoCs, networking and communication processors, core processors for computing, server and storage markets, and any other type of core processor that will benefit by adaptively altering its own supply voltage. There is still time to get involved in the finalization of PMBus V1.3, but you must act! And attending DPF ’13 is a great way to make sure your voice is heard, all the key players will be there.

PMBus V1.3 will include:
• Higher speed communication to reduce latencies
• A dedicated Adaptive Voltage Scaling (AVS) bus to statically and dynamically control processor voltages
• General enhancements and cleanup from Version 1.2
