IXYS to Appeal Injunction in Samsung, IR Legal Battle

March 25, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

IXYS Corp. (Santa Clara, CA) announced that it will appeal an injunction in the legal case between International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) and Samsung Semiconductor Inc. IXYS reported that the court has decided that it is bound by an injunction entered in a settlement between IR and Samsung.

IXYS is affected because Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. is one of its major foundry suppliers, and the decision affects certain MOSFET devices it sells in the US. IXYS said it intends to immediately appeal the court’s decision, and is seeking an immediate stay of the injunction relating to IXYS devices, pending outcome of the appeal.

"We had planned for the possibility of such a decision, and anticipate that the appellate court will look upon our arguments

favorably," said Nathan Zommer, IXYS president and CEO. "We feel that we will ultimately prevail in the lawsuit instigated by IR. Notwithstanding our optimism, however, we had started some time back, to redesign our products and we are substantially complete on this redesign effort."
