Hydrogenics Launches Fuel Cell Initiative

February 18, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Hydrogenics Corp. (Toronto, Canada), a designer and manufacturer of fuel cell technology, announced a new business initiative to develop fuel-cell-based power trains for off-road light vehicles in the sub-automotive power range (typically less than 50 kW of power), targeted at original equipment manufacturers. The vehicles would be deployed in utility markets such as airport ground support, materials handling, underground mining, grounds maintenance and military applications.

"Over the past two years, Hydrogenics has experienced great success with our partnerships and power module deployments," stated President and CEO Pierre Rivard. "We are increasingly being recognized as the 'go-to' company that provides a complete technology solution for today's early-adopting markets. Establishing a foothold in the high-potential, off-road, light mobility markets has always been one of our primary goals. Now that we are exceeding critical cost and system durability milestones, we feel the time is right to implement an aggressive strategy to capture the emerging opportunities with our portfolio of technologies."
