GrafTech's GRAFCELL Picked for Honda's FCX

GrafTech International Ltd. (Wilmington, DE) announced that GRAFCELL™ advanced flexible graphite will be included in Ballard Power Systems Inc.'s (Vancouver, BC) fuel cell engines, used to power Honda Motor Co.'s (Japan) new FCX fuel cell vehicle (FCV), and which are planned for commercial release by the end of 2002.

Honda announced that the City of Los Angeles is its first US retail customer for its fuel cell vehicle, agreeing to lease five Honda fuel cell vehicles beginning in late 2002. Honda will also market the vehicles in Japan within the next year. The vehicles will be powered by Ballard® fuel cells and have been certified as zero-emission vehicles by the California Air Resources Board and the US Environmental Protection Agency.
