Powin Energy, a designer and developer of safe and scalable energy storage solutions for utilities, C&I, and EV fast-charging stations, announced today that energy industry leader Geoffrey Brown has been named the company's new president. Brown brings over a decade of international project financing, business development, and implementation expertise and joins Powin at a key moment in the company's history.

“Powin Energy’s strategy and technology have proven to be successful as they are providing strong value to energy storage customers through software and integration,” said Brown. “It is an exciting time to be in the energy storage industry and I look forward to leading the charge in the next chapter of the Powin story.”

Brown has more than ten years of experience driving wind, solar, and energy storage project acquisition and development efforts for renewable energy companies including: NRG Renew, Beacon Power, Element Power, and Garrad Hassan America. At NRG, Brown was responsible for setting global strategy for the firm’s microgrid business that focused on offering a turnkey distributed generation solution to multi-national corporations.

Brown’s portfolio includes supervision of over 10 GW of utility scale renewable energy projects and he also acquired expertise in developing microgrid projects in Alaska, Hawai’i, Guam, and Mexico while with Beacon Power. At Element Power, Brown was responsible for developing project opportunities and created over 7 GW of renewable energy projects. Brown received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University and a Master in Electrical Engineering degree from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.

Earlier this year, Powin Energy announced that its unique Battery Pack Operating System (bp-OS) that includes the industry-exclusive Battery Odometer and Warranty Trackerâ„¢ had received a United States patent. The bp-OS is a standard component in every Powin Energy Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The BESS is a self-contained 125 kW/250 kWh modular shipping container that can be scaled to service projects that are multiple megawatts in size. BESS units are less than 20 feet long, giving the system a modest footprint.
