Fraunhofer Announces Third-Annual Micro Energy Symposium

October 20, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

"Micro Energy Technology – Power To Go" is the topic of the third-annual Fraunhofer Symposium to be hosted December 4, 2008, at the Maritim Hotel in Nuremberg, Germany. This symposium will focus on industry requirements and application-oriented research activities in the field of energy harvesting, energy storage, and power management in the low power range.

Among the speakers at this year’s symposium, Jeff Shepard, Darnell Group, will review, "Commercial Deployment Trends of Energy Harvesting Technologies." Thomas Becker with EADS will discuss, "Energy-Scavenging for Wireless Sensor Networks in Aircraft." Dr. Francesce Moll with Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya will focus on, "High-Level Considerations in the Design of Energy Harvesting Systems."

The symposium will start with a reception at the Nuremberg Traffic Museum and will include an exhibition, where Fraunhofer will present different technologies and demonstrators related to micro energy technology. "Micro Energy Technology – Power To Go" will give leading industrial enterprises, research institutes, policy-makers, venture capitalists and end users the opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in energy harvesting, energy storage and power management, and network with top executives and technical professionals.

"Micro energy technology has an extremely high economic potential but at the same time poses equally high technological challenges. Customized power supplies that are intended to outperform conventional storage-based solutions have to meet high demands: The architecture of the power system must be tailored to the anticipated utilization profile. High energy conversion efficiency as well as a completely maintenance-free and reliable operation has to be achieved. And finally the entire system must be manufactured in a cost-effective way in order to be adopted by the market." stated Peter Spies, Chairman of the Symposium.
