Flint Energies Installs Plug Power Fuel Cell in GA

July 10, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Georgia's first residential fuel cell has been installed by Flint Energies (Warner Robins, GA) to provide heat and electricity to its service center facility. The 5kW fuel cell, manufactured by Plug Power Inc. (Latham, NY) and purchased from GE Fuel Cell Systems LLC (Atlanta, GA), was installed and commissioned in less then four days.

Plug Power's fuel cell is capable of generating both electricity and heat and will be utilized in water heaters in Flint's service center. The system installed at Flint will be operated, monitored and tested by Flint personnel who have been trained by Plug Power. The experience and data that will be generated will further design improvements and help bring fuel cells to market for future customers.

"Fuel cells will be an important part of Flint's electric service in the future," said Joe Cade, Flint Energies president and CEO. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to begin to understand the applications of fuel cells first-hand, beginning with the installation of this system at our service center."
