Exide Announces ISO Certification of UK Plant

May 23, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Exide Technologies (Princeton, NJ) recently announced that its plant in Cwmbran, Wales has received ISO/TS 16949 certification. The factory manufactures approximately 1.5 million lead-acid batteries per year for Exide's transportation business group for both original-equipment and aftermarket sales.

“The certification process began with a documentation audit prior to the actual on-site, three-day assessment for a total of five working days,” said Vincent Mann, plant manager of Exide Technologies' Cwmbran facility. “The rigid process covered 19 of 20 existing standards as well as customer-specific requirements for Ford and Peugeot Motaquip. The section on servicing was the only permitted exception. Cross-functional teams from across the plant worked together to drive the effort and continue to work toward our next goal - ISO 18001 certification.”
