Energizer Announces Third-Quarter 2005 Results

Energizer Holdings Inc. (St. Louis, MO) announced results of its third quarter ended June 30, 2005. For the North America Battery market, net sales for the third quarter of $252.7 million increased $24.2 million, or 11 percent, as $36.6 million of higher volume was partially offset by unfavorable pricing and product mix. Energizer Max volume increased 14 percent, while lithium and rechargeable products experienced growth of over 20 percent. Gross profit decreased $3.0 million for the quarter, and segment profit increased $2.0 million, or four percent, for the quarter. For the nine months, sales increased $66.7 million, or eight percent. Gross profit increased $12.1 million for the nine months and segment profit increased $13.7 million.

For the international battery market, net sales for the quarter were $204.8 million, an increase of $11.5 million, or six percent, on favorable currency impacts of $7.6 million and higher volume, partially offset by unfavorable pricing and product mix. Segment profit increased $3.9 million, including a $3.4 million benefit from currency valuations. For the nine months, net sales increased $44.7 million, or seven percent, on favorable currency translation of $27.8 million and higher volume. Segment profit increased $25.8 million compared to the same nine months last year.
