Cornell Dubilier Announces Increased Production of Motor Run and HID Lighting Capacitors

August 20, 2012 by Jeff Shepard

Cornell Dubilier announced that its manufacturing facility in Mexicali, Mexico is poised to take on higher levels of production of both HID Lighting and Motor Run capacitors.

"We’ve been seeing an increase in orders for oil filled capacitors from major North American Companies that have had field problems with Far East capacitor imports and interruptions in supply from domestic suppliers," says Jack Chmura, Product Manager at CDE’s New Bedford, MA facility.

CDE has been providing capacitors solutions for HID and motor-run applications for over 40 years. In 2004 CDE expanded its capacity with the purchase of York Capacitor in Winooski Vermont and transferred production to its Mexicali, Mexico facility to obtain a more favorable cost structure. At the time of the purchase of York in 2004 it appeared that the North American market was shrinking as more production shifted to Asia. The company now reports that there is a reverse trend to buy capacitors from NA companies who have better control over their supply chain and more control over key process steps. Unlike the replacement MRO market, which is largely fulfilled with Asian sourced product, makers of HID ballasts, high end motors and power conversion customers require highly reliable capacitors with long life.

Cornell Dubilier is a capacitor manufacturer with ISO9001 registered facilities in New Bedford, MA, Liberty, SC, Mexicali, Mexico and Shenzhen China. Focused on "Capacitor Solutions for Power Electronics", it specializes with aluminum electrolytic, mica, motor run, and ac and dc plastic film capacitors.
