Cobasys Selected by ISE to Provide NiMHax Battery Packs

April 04, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Cobasys (Orion, MI), a supplier of nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery systems for hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs), stationary power solutions and uninterruptible power supply systems (UPS), and a joint venture between ChevronTexaco Technology Ventures and Energy Conversion Devices Inc. (ECD, Rochester Hills, MI), announced that it has been selected by ISE Corp. (San Diego, CA) to provide its NiMHax battery packs for development of a new HEV powertrain for the Army's family of medium tactical vehicles (FMTV).

The Cobasys NiMHax 576-240 battery system supplied to ISE offers long life and power in a small, light package compared to typical lead-acid batteries. The plug-and-play NiMHax battery packs include battery monitoring, electronics, CAN communications and thermal management. The high-power, 240 kW and liquid-cooled NiMHax packs are suitable for military applications where dirt, dust and water intrusion are concerns.

Cobasys Chief Sales Officer Scott Lindholm noted, "We are pleased to be working with ISE on this important military project. ISE is a leader in the design and development of hybrid drive systems for commercial applications." ISE Chairman of the Board Mike Simon commented, "The Cobasys NiMHax battery packs are an ideal solution for the FMTV project due to the complete integration of all necessary components to provide a safe, reliable, high-performance battery pack."
