Cloud-based Tool Enables Easy Collaboration for Global Design Teams

Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has announced an online design tool that helps engineers to analyze the performance of components for the power stages of embedded designs and improve overall system effectiveness and efficiency. The Toshiba Semiconductor Web Simulator enables users to simulate MOSFET performance under various voltage and temperature conditions, and to analyze their switching waveforms in ac-dc and dc-dc converter applications using different topologies such as full-bridge, flyback and synchronous buck converters. In addition to MOSFETs the behavior of LDO regulators and load switch ICs can be analyzed. Being cloud-based, data and designs can be shared easily among design teams, regardless of their locations. Additionally, the simulator can be downloaded and used in offline mode which offers even more flexibility in the circuit design.

The tool is divided into three interactive elements: datasheet, application designer and design note. The first two cover MOSFETs, the latter, LDOs and load switches. With the interactive MOSFET datasheet, the designer can choose from a list of parts and then analyze his or her selection based on a set of customizable curve tracker and dynamic characteristics test circuits. To simplify selection, the search may be refined by adjusting parameters including package type, resistance and voltage range.

Using the interactive application designer it is possible to select a MOSFET device for various topologies, based on specific design requirements. Then its performance in the application can be evaluated using the online simulation and analysis tools. When simulation and comparisons have been completed, a summary is generated included a circuit schematic and bill of materials. This material can be printed, saved and shared with colleagues. Additionally, it is also possible to export the MOSFET design models for utilization in different simulator environments.

The interactive design note provides similar functionality for LDO regulators and load switch ICs. Users can identify parts based on chosen parameters, create a circuit design with a single click, analyze this and generate a bill of materials together with a summary document for reporting.
