CAP-XX Appoints Tecate As Specialty Supercapacitor Distributor

January 01, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

CAP-XX Ltd. announced that it has appointed Tecate as its global online sales partner and as a stocking distributor for the Americas. San Diego, California-based Tecate will stock CAP-XX’s full line of general purpose and high temperature supercapacitors.

Supercapacitors, also called "ultracapacitors," combine the energy-storage capability of batteries with the rapid charge and discharge times of conventional capacitors. According to CAP-XX, supercapacitors can offload large instantaneous power demands from a battery to enable new functionality and extend battery life.

"Tecate’s ability to accept online orders and ship the next day is a huge benefit to our customers," said Peter Buckle, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for CAP-XX. "We believe that this relationship will increase the awareness of CAP-XX’s product capabilities with design engineers and sourcing professionals around the world."

In addition to the CAP-XX range of supercapacitors, Tecate’s online store features other lines such as the Maxwell Boostcap® ultracapacitors, which provide very high capacitance in larger form factors for more energy-intensive applications.

CAP-XX claims that its supercapacitors are the smallest and thinnest available today for any given ESR and capacitance. They are also said to pack a high energy density (capacitance up to 1.6F at 2.75V) and high power density (ESRs as low as 18mΩ), into thin prismatic packages (from 0.9mm thick), suitable for use in slim, portable electronic devices such as camera phones, PDAs, digital cameras and multimedia players.

"The CAP-XX line now allows us to cover applications where space and ESR are mission-critical, positioning Tecate as a ’one stop shop’ for supercapacitor solutions with design engineers and purchasing professionals alike," said Tom Wight, Director of Sales for Tecate.
