WiTricity Corp. announced an intellectual property licensing agreement with BRUSA Elektronik AG, a leading global supplier of advanced power electronics for electrified vehicles. Under the terms of the agreement, BRUSA will license WiTricity's patented intellectual property to commercialize efficient, high-performance wireless charging systems for carmakers that will enable next generation electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to charge effortlessly by simply parking over a BRUSA wireless charging pad.
Carmakers around the world have identified wireless charging as a key differentiator in the marketplace because of the convenience it will offer vehicle owners. BRUSA’s “ICS†wireless charging system, utilizing WiTricity’s patented technology, can transfer power to a vehicle safely and at high efficiency, eliminating the need for the charging cables required by existing electrified vehicles. WiTricity and BRUSA are both working with a number of international standards organizations to develop standards for wireless charging systems with the goal of ensuring interoperability of wireless charging systems for EVs and PHEVs on a global basis.
