May 20, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Ballard Power Systems Inc. (Vancouver, BC) announced the opening of its advanced alternative energy laboratory in Dearborn, MI. The facility has six separate test cells with room for future expansion to eight cells. The new laboratory allows the rapid development and testing of the complete series of Ecostar power converters that Ballard plans to introduce.

In the laboratory, power systems up to 750kVA can be tested. Not only can Ecostar power converters be tested but also complete power generators using power sources such as fuel cells, microturbines and internal combustion engines.
