Audi and Volkswagen Working on Hydrogen-Powered Cars

October 25, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Audi and Volkswagen AG (Auburn Hills, MI) have both revealed that they are working on hydrogen-powered cars. Audi is working on the A2 with a 147 bhp electric motor, which uses compressed hydrogen stored in a tank in the boot.

Volkswagen is currently working on its Touran-based Hy Motion vehicle, which has a range of 100 miles and a top speed of 87 mph. Even though both firms are part of the VW Group, the projects are being developed by separate teams.
