Ascom Acquires Rompower

February 22, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Ascom (Switzerland) has purchased Rompower Inc. (Tucson, AZ), with its branches in Tuscon, AZ and Bucharest, Romania, hence expanding the development "know-how" of its energy systems division. Rompower, which employs a total of approximately 20 highly-specialized engineers, has concentrated on the research and development of dc/dc converters.

Ascom believes that Rompower will cover the "know-how" for the US and European markets and will complement the recently-purchased Somelec Energie & Technologies (France) both technologically and qualitatively. With these two new acquisitions, Ascom Energy Systems now has an additional 30 development engineers.

Ionel Jitaru, the founder and current owner of Rompower, will continue managing the company. In the future, however, its name will be changed to Ascom Rompower Inc.
