Zetex Unveils ZXLD1601/ZXLD1615 PFM Boost Converters

Zetex plc (Chadderton, Oldham) unveiled its ZXLD1601 and ZXLD1615 PFM inductive boost converters, which provide designers with an adjustable source of bias voltage for LCD and OLED driving. Producing any output up to 28 V from a 2.5 V to 5.5 V battery supply, the converters ensure that contrast control is smooth.

Output voltage is set to its maximum using two external resistors and is adjusted to a lower value by applying a PWM control signal to the converter's enable pin. Depending on its frequency, the signal will initiate either gated or continuous (low ripple) operation via an internal low-pass filter circuit.

Through higher component integration and the use of miniature, SC70 and TSOT23-5, packaging, the dc-dc converters also offer significant PCB space savings. To help reduce external component count, both converters include a 30 V rated NDMOS switch and a peak current sensor and can generate an output current of up to 10 mA at the maximum output voltage. By reducing the output voltage, an output current of up to 250 mA is attainable.

An efficient dc-dc converter solution, the latest additions to the ZXLD product family achieve a typical efficiency of 85%. To help further extend the battery life of portable equipment, both converters consume a low standby current of 60 µA and feature a shutdown function that reduces current to less than 100 nA in the off state.

Pricing for the ZXLD1615 is $0.53 in quantities of 1,000, and pricing for the ZXLD1601 is $0.65 in quantities of 1,000.
